Hannicap Circus is the debut solo album of American recording artist Bizarre, a rapper best known for his work with Detroit hip-hop group, D12. It was released on June 28, 2005. The album is a huge reflection of Bizarre's rap persona and stage presence and yet many of the songs carry important subject matter, a bit of Bizarre's past and talking about the state of hip-hop.
Ice Cube's song "It Was a Good Day" is parodied on the track "Bad Day". The track was produced by Erick Sermon.
The album peaked at #48 on the Billboard 200.
Rufus "Nignag" Johnson (born July 5, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan), better known as Bizarre, is an American recording artist, best known for his work with Detroit hip-hop group, D12. More recently Rufus Johnson was featured on a season of VH1's Celebrity Fit Club.
Bizarre and Eminem have been affiliated with the rap group the Outsidaz which included Young Zee, Rah Digga and Pacewon among others. D12 is said to have joined the Outsidaz early in their career to form a large collective.
He has appeared in many magazines including Rolling Stone and The Source.
In September 1998, Bizarre won Inner City Entertainment's Flava of the Year award.
Bizarre is well-known as a D12 member for his "unconventional" lyrics. In the past, he has rapped about such topics as rape, drugs, transvestites, bisexuality, misogyny, foot fungus, watersports and incest. His solo song on D12 World, "Just Like U" was even partly-censored on the explicit version of the album.
He attributes his name to his weirdness:
I came up with the title because I really felt like most musicians that I've been around are fucking weird. I know I have my little weird ways, so I consider myself a special artist. I'm a guy that chews paper, wears a shower cap in public, pops Vicodin pills and goes fishing. There's not a lot of entertainment out there everything is so hardcore, shoot 'em up bang bang. I'm here to lighten up the hip-hop game.
Bizarre is married, you can clearly see on his chest the tattoo "Deanna", which is his wife's name. In the song "Coming Home" from Hannicap Circus, he mentions the tattoo: "What, you want a watch, bracelet or a chain/ How 'bout my chest, a tattoo of your name (DeeDee)." In the video for the song "Shit On You", his wife can be seen sweating, standing over a stove, and cleaning various things, while Bizarre's verse speaks "All women ain't shit, only good for cooking, cleaning, and sucking dick, and that's it." In the video of "40 oz", she moves her hand across her neck in the 'cutthroat' motion while Bizarre raps, "I'll have my wife cut your throat". Further, in the song "Doctor Doctor" from the Hannicap Circus Bizarre says: "Its been a week and me and wife ain't have sex, I'm usually a wild guy, I break her fuckin' neck". She also was mentioned, and made a very brief appearance on the show 'Celebrity Fit Club' as Bizarre was on the cast during the 3rd season. Deanna is signed to the same record label as Bizarre, "Redhead" and is in her own rock group, Sindy Syringe. The group is scheduled to release an album possibly next year, but they currently have one single, "In the Box", and can be heard on the track "Fuck Your Life", from the Hannicap Circus album, and on the Japan-import exclusive "Hannicap Circus" track "Scooby Doo". Bizarre made a video for Hannicap Circus' lead single "Rockstar" which featured cameos from Eminem, Tech N9ne, D12, King Gordy and the Fat Killaz.
In a recent interview with DJBooth.net, Bizarre stated that D12's untitled third studio album is half way done and should be released sometime in early 2008. In even more recent news, it was confirmed that Bizarre will Perform on certain dates for Twiztid's Toxic Terror Tour, which also includes Boondox, DJ Clay, and Project Born.
